About the Author

Prof. Akhil Bihari Ota, IAS (Retd.), a National Tagore Fellow, is a distinguished anthropologist and an academic-turned-administrator. Prof. Ota is an expert committee member in a number of committees of Niti Aayog, Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Govt of India. He was the Honorary Advisor, National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. Professor Ota has also acted as an Expert Committee Member on PVTGs invited by NITI Aayog. To his credit Dr. Ota has worked as Senior Tribal Advisor to many UN Agencies such as UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA and as short-term consultant with World Bank. He has also acted as Advisor, Tribal Museum, Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prof. Ota has authored and edited more than 55 books to his credit mostly pertaining to tribal issues, ethnography of tribes/life and culture of tribal communities.Some of his recent published books are: “Encyclopedia of Tribes in Odisha” (in 5 Volumes) incorporating all the tribal Communities and 13 PVTGs of Odisha & Two volumes on “Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices among PVTGs of India”
Dr. Ajanta Nayak, M.Sc.Ph.D., is an accomplished academician with over two decades of experience in teaching and research across diverse areas of Home Science, including Food & Nutrition, Textile & Extension Education. Her primary research interests lie in community nutrition, textiles, and tribal studies. Dr. Nayak had received the prestigious 73rd Kumudini Memorial Award in 2023 by Bigyan Prachar Samiti of Odisha and was also honored with the Young Scientist Award by the Nutrition Society of India in 2008. She has authored and edited 12 no. of books and published numerous articles in national and international journals. Her previous publication, “Causes & Management of Nutritional Deficiency Disorders,” a Scopus-indexed publication by IGI Global reflects the global collaboration among the academicians, researchers, nutritionist and health professionals worldwide. The book authored by her ‘’Conventional Textile Crafts of India”, was felicitated and showcased in Bharat Text Expo organized by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India on 14th Feb 2025. Her latest work, “Understanding Fashion: Clothing, Aesthetics and Cultural Expression”, delves into how fashion reflects identity, creativity, and culture, bridging the gap between clothing and cultural significance. Currently, she serves as the Head, PG Department of Home Science at Shailabala Autonomous Women’s College, Cuttack, Odisha, India. She is actively engaged in community outreach through teaching and fieldwork.
Mr. Sourav Bhattacharjee, Development professional and research scholar with NIT, Rourkela Sourav’s journey in public health nutrition spans over two decades, beginning with efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods and health programs, where his interventions reduced child malnutrition and led to successful models being scaled across multiple districts. His leadership of large-scale maternal and child nutrition programs has translated strategy into action, managed multi-million-dollar budgets, coordinated across government departments, and guided teams to deliver measurable impact on child survival and nutrition outcomes. His expertise includes program design, policy advocacy, emergency nutrition response, and data-driven monitoring, integrating community engagement, systems innovation, and capacity building to implement resilient, scalable interventions. Currently, Sourav is a research scholar in the Department of Humanities at NIT Rourkela.
