Description

The book entitled “Economic Growth and public spending on Education in India: An Inter State Analysis” examines the interrelationship between educational investment and economic growth across India’s major states from 1980 to 2021. This book provides an in-depth empirical analysis of the relationship between investment in education and economic growth in major states of India. Drawing data from secondary sources, particularly the Reserve Bank of India and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the book adopts time-series model and panel data model to examine the long-run relationship. It critically explores that, despite their poor gross state domestic product, the developing states have consistently spent higher proportions of their gross state domestic product on education as compared to the developed states. The study also draws attention to regional disparities in education spending and emphasizes the importance of sustained public investment in the social sector. It serves as a valuable resource for researchers, students, policymakers, economists, and development practitioners who are interested in education finance, public policy, and the role of education in economic development in India.
